Christopher Reeve's Widow Loses Battle With Lung Cancer

We've had a lot of celebrity deaths recently, everyone from Don Knotts to Kirby Puckett, but seeing this news when I looked at the CNN website this morning shook me up the most.

Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve's widow, has passed away at the age of 45, due to the lung cancer that she announced she'd been diagnosed with last fall. It seems extraordinarily cruel, after everything she'd been through in the last few years of her life, and all the grace and dignity she'd shown during those last few years. In retrospect, it's a good thing her husband is no longer with us, because of the grief this would no doubt cause him. But also no doubt, he's up there in heaven wondering, "Why are you here already???"

Sad, sad news. May she rest in peace.

This is extremely sad news Their poor son. I can't imagine being 13 and being orphaned in such painful, drawn out ways. It goes to show that sometimes really bad things happen to nice people.

Yeah, I was sad to hear it too. Especially because her son just recently lost his dad too. Being older and losing both parents as such an effect on me, I can't imagine what it will be for him being only 13.

Yeah, this really blows. You wanted so much for her to have a life after losing Chris, only for this to happen. Just heartbreaking. And I hear she sang at an event in New York in mid-January.

I had a friend die at 48 within a few months of being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was acquainted with a physician who died at 50 within 3 or 4 months of being diagnosed with the same type of lung cancer as Reeve; he'd never smoked, either.

All I can say is carpe diem. You just don't know when your card will get punched.
